Weird thing last night
2/6/2008
Let's see. I'm dating a girl from where I work now. Her name's Nichole. She has a 3-year-old daughter named Stephanie. They are both moved in now. I'm happy with it. She's a wonderful girlfriend. My apartment is so much nicer thanks to her. I need someone like her in my life.

Anyway, last night something weird happened. I was up on the computer (in the front room now) and reading some stuff for work and Nichole went to bed. She seemed a little upset over something, but she said it was tiredness. 20 or so minutes later, I went in our room to go to bed, but had to use the bathroom first. I was in there a while and I wanted to finish the Sudoku puzzle I was working on, so once I finally finished the darn thing, I went out and went to bed. However, she wasn't there. I assumed she was either in the kitchen or in her daughter's room. I went to bed and then was awakened by a bright light. She had just come out of the bathroom, where she had the light on.

I lay there and felt really weird. It is really hard to describe it. It felt like everything was huge. Like my arms were huge and bulky, like made out of car-size pills. It felt like I was wrapping my arms around equally huge things. It was a scary kind of feeling. I felt dizzy as well. Nichole came in and sat on the bed behind me. I was still scared/weirded out by what I was feeling. The last time I felt that was when I was really young and I had a fever.

She asked me what was wrong or something like that. I can only assume she could tell I was feeling weird, as nothing I said suggested anything was wrong. I told her that it was hard to explain and that everything felt huge. She didn't understand. She looked scary sitting there because the window was behind her and I could only see her silhouette. She assumed I was unhappy and by "everything seeming huge", I was saying that my life changing with she and her daughter moving in was overwhelming. After I explained better what I meant by "everything being huge", she wondered if I was sick. She felt me and said I felt clammy and cold. I said it was cold in the bathroom. But, after lying there for a while, she said I still felt cold and said I'd normally be warm by then. I wondered if I was about to die. I didn't think I was going to, but the thought crossed my mind. What if something was wrong with me and my body stopped producing heat. Obviously, that wasn't the case.

She told me that my computer made a ding sound like Outlook received an email, and then it later did a sound similar to the shutting down sound when I first went into the bathroom. I went and looked and Outlook wasn't even open, so if I had received an email, it wouldn't have told me anyway. I opened Outlook and there were no emails. There also weren't any error messages that would have made a ding sound. I wondered if the power had flickered and my battery backup maybe dinged to let me know. However, I don't know what would have caused the shutdown jingle. It hadn't restarted, because some of my programs were still running.

I went back in our room and lay down. A little later, I heard a tiny click sound from the direction of our closet, and then everything sounded a little quieter, like a barely audible hum had been going and then it stopped. My computer is in the room on the other side of the closet, so I wondered if it had just turned off. I also wondered if someone upstairs just had something running and then turned it off. At any rate, it sounded more quiet than normal. I looked at the clock and it was a little after midnight. I looked over past Nichole and saw the dresser with my stack of CDs on it and it looked weird somehow. I couldn't put my finger on anything weird about it. The lighting just seemed different than usual. Maybe the light from outside was shining brighter on the mini-blinds. I told her that things looked weird. She asked how. I couldn't explain because I didn't know myself. She agreed that it did seem more quiet than usual.

I think it was then that she got up to turn the heater on because I still felt cold. The thermostat is right next to the bedroom door. After she turned it up, I asked if she could look to see if my computer was still on. She looked and it was. Then she went to check on Stephanie. She stopped and said she was having a really bad feeling and asked if it was okay if Stephanie slept with us. I said it was. I went out to the front room and she brought Stephanie into our room. Then I heard her tell me she felt something really strange and told me to turn the light on. I went in there and turned it on and nothing was there. Nichole looked really nervous and scared and I thought she was almost going to cry. She stood there holding Stephanie and whispered, "Go away, please just go away," to whatever was there. She felt a presence in the room with us that wasn't human. I didn't feel anything.

She said she felt a weird feeling when she was lying in bed and when she left our room to check on Steph, she felt a really strong chill and like something cold brushed by her. Then she got a strong protective urge to get Stephanie. We 3 lay there in bed and Nichole wanted to leave her nightlight on. She felt uneasy and felt goosebumps until she went to sleep.

This morning she told me that something woke her up at 3 in the morning and she still felt uneasy. Then she had a dream just before waking up from her alarm that something, she doesn't know what, was coming out of the closet. We felt fine this morning. I wonder how tonight will be.
